SINGAPORE – After announcing her bid for the upcoming presidential election, Halimah Yacob, 62, commented that she intends to continue living in her five room flat if she was elected.
The ex-Speaker of Parliament currently resides in Yishun with her family. She has been living in the same flat for over 30 years and intends to continue doing so if she gets elected. However, she did note concerns of possible security measures which may hinder her from staying in public housing if she does become President.
She also commented on the topic in an interview by The Straits Times in 2013, saying ‘more than 80 per cent of our population live in HDB flats and if it is good enough for them, it is good enough for me.’ Well said, Ma’am.
If she is elected, not only will she be the first female President of Singapore and first elected Malay president, she will also be the first president to reside in public housing after being elected.
